Wear a hardhat and appropriate footwear at all times.
Stay away from the sides of loaded log trucks. Approach and count logs from the end of the load.
Keep well away from moving equipment and make sure the equipment operators see you before you walk up to the equipment.
Keep off logging and road building equipment.
NOTIFY LOGGERS WHEN YOU ARE WORKING IN AN ACTIVE AREA.
Be alert for falling trees, snags, widowmakers, handups, rolling logs, and trees which have been notched and partially cut.
Never stand on any downed tree which could be hit by a tree being felled or struck by a skidded log.
Stay out of range of small uncut trees sometimes pushed over by log, tractor, or cable movement.
Never stand in the bight of the line.
NEVER cross OVER an active line in a cable logging operation. If it is necessary to cross, find a place offering protection, such as a stump or draw, and cross UNDER the line. Know and understand the signals being used.
Never stand in front of any cable anchoring device, including stumps, rock bolts and deadmen. Stay to the side or behind the anchor.
Never walk directly up to cutters. Locate, and let them see you or wait for them to complete the cut.
Never approach timber cutters from below.
Never walk below an active cat road or downhill cable logging operation where there is a danger of a loose log rolling.
Stay out from under helicopter flight paths during yarding.
Wear hardhat with chin strap and goggles when near helicopter operations. Helicopter downwash can break branches, dislodge looses materials, and stir up a large amount of debris.
Landing Safety
Avoid conducting business on landings; move to a safe area. Landings are very busy places with several activities going on simultaneously and are extremely hazardous.
Stay away from running lines, moving chokers, swinging logs, truck loading operations, power saw operations, decked logs, or any moving equipment.
Watch your footing.
Keep your vehicle off the landing.
Observe landing operations a few minutes before approaching.
Watch for the swing of the counterweight from loaders and swingboom yarders.
Stay clear of log decks. Logs can rolls for no apparent reason.
Watch for binders being thrown over loads.
Never enter a helicopter drop zone unless the helicopter is down for refueling.
Never approach a helicopter until the rotors have stopped turning and the pilot gives the OK.
Road Construction
When working in advance of road construction, find out from the man in charge of the powder crew when he expects to shoot and tell him the expected time of return to the road location.
Always sound off when nearing the powder crew's working area.
Do not transmit on two-way radio where blasting is being done.
